An Ithaca man was charged with two counts of criminal contempt in the first degree and unlawful imprisonment Saturday evening after a woman stated she had been dragged by a vehicle operated by the defendant, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

The incident occurred in the 700 block of South Meadow Street. IPD officers — who responded to a call regarding the incident at approximately 5 p.m. — found a woman lying on the ground in the middle of the parking lot when they arrived on scene.

The defendant, 29-year-old Akiel Patrick, was reportedly arguing with the woman and refused to let her leave. She was subsequently dragged “a fair distance” before she was able to break away from the vehicle, according to police.

Patrick fled the scene and the victim was transported to an area hospital, the release said.

He was later located in the Town of Ithaca where he was arrested. Patrick is set to appear in Ithaca City Court Wednesday.
