A man was pepper sprayed and threatened by three individuals while walking down West State Street early Saturday morning, according to police.

Police arrested two juveniles in connection to the incident, and the victim identified the two as being involved. Police say that the third assailant is an adult and remains at large.

The victim told police that he was walking toward the Ithaca Commons on the 400 block of West State Street around 1 a.m.  when three males threatened to rob and assault him, police say.  One of the males brandished a knife and threatened the victim.

In addition, one of the assailants sprayed the victim with pepper spray “from a water gun type instrument,” and the three males tried to trip him as he ran towards the Ithaca Commons, the victim told police.

Once he approached a group of individuals near the Commons, the assailants fled, according to police. Bystanders then assisted the victim, who took him to a nearby business where “he was able to start decontaminating from the spray he was exposed to.”

No  significant injuries were reported, according to police.

Police say theyare continuing to investigate this case and that anyone with information should contact the Ithaca Police Department Investigations Division.
