My conversation with Margit Cianelli was interrupted by some sharp beeping and a muffled thud. After some brief, chiding words to the culprit, she apologized, “I’m sorry, the pademelon just turned on the alarm clock.” She had mentioned earlier that one was snuggled up on her bed munching on some sweet potato. They’re absolutely adorable — they’re essentially tiny, fat kangaroos that live on the rainforest floor. Here’s one in Cianelli’s kitchen. Yes, her kitchen:
