The Cornell men’s basketball team released its schedule for the upcoming season on Friday morning. The 2016-17 campaign begins on Nov. 11, when the Red will take on Binghamton in Vestal N.Y.
Following the clash against the Bearcats, Cornell plays another upstate New York foe, traveling to Loudonville to play Siena in a rematch of last year’s one-point victory.
The Red plays its first home game of the season against Colgate on Nov. 16. Based on last year’s result — a thrilling two-overtime win — the game could be one of the most exciting contests of the season.
The week of Thanksgiving, Cornell is back on the road for three more games, playing Lafayette, Monmouth and — for the first time in school history — Houston.
On Nov. 30, the Red plays Northeastern in just its second home game in the team’s first 12 games.
Cornell then flies West to the Las Vegas Invitational to play Wyoming, USC and Troy during the first week of winter break. Also over break, the Red will take on Syracuse in the Carrier Dome in its yearly contest with the perennial powerhouse and a member of last year’s Final Four. Cornell will also play UMass-Lowell, Albany and Fisher to close out the out-of-conference portion of the schedule.
Ivy League games begin with a home and an away game against Columbia on Jan. 14 and 21, respectively, and continue onward through March 4, with games each Friday and Saturday.
If the Red finishes in the top 4 of the league, the team qualifies for the inaugural Ivy League Men’s Basketball Tournament, to be held in the Palestra in Philadelphia on March 11 and 12.
