No one is in custody after a man was shot in the leg on West State Street in downtown Ithaca on Sunday night and transported to a trauma center, police said. The victim’s condition is not yet known.

At least seven Ithaca Police officers methodically combed through the parking lot behind Talk of the Town Nail Salon and Cornell Laundry and Cleaning Center on the 100 block of South Meadow Street around 7:30 p.m., about 10 minutes after they provided trauma care to the victim and used a tourniquet to slow the bleeding.

Officers searched the lot with their flashlights as heavy snow covered the crime scene, which was marked off with yellow tape until about 9 p.m.

Wendy, an employee at Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant across the street from the scene, said she heard four gunshots and then saw police arrive shortly thereafter. Another employee of the restaurant echoed her account.

Wendy said IPD requested footage from the store’s two video cameras, and that the manager would be at the restaurant later on Sunday night to download whatever the cameras had caught on tape.
