Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Shine in Boston Winter Open

Men’s and women’s swim and dive teams concluded a two-day competition in Boston on Saturday evening with multiple top-three finishes for the Red.

Sophomore Ming Xu led the women with three podium finishes, placing third in the 50-yard free, second in the 200-yard back, and winning the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:03.70. Two freshmen, Aria Capelli and Kyleigh Tangen, also made significant contributions with Capelli placing fourth in the 400-yard individual medley and Tangen finishing third in the 100-yard free.

Senior Lexie Vanderloo reached the podium twice, placing third in both the 500 and 200-yard free. In diving, junior Elina Natarajan finished third in the one-meter event with a score of 226.75. The women’s team shined most in the relays, winning silver in the 400 and 200-yard medley relays as well as the 400 and 200-yard free relays.

On the men’s side, freshman Phillip Osadsky swept the breaststroke events, placing first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.44 and first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 1:57.65. Other first-place finishes for the men include junior Mac Marsh in the 50-yard free and sophomore Michael Wywrocki in the 200-yard back. Junior Reid Brophy also reached the podium, placing third in the 200-yard individual medley.

Like the women, the men separated themselves from the competition in the relays, winning three out of the four relays offered. The men finished first in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays and the 200-yard free relay. The Red capped off the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard free relay in a time of 3:02.32.

“This meet was especially important because of our seniors,” freshman JP Vanderloo said. “They’ve dedicated so much to our program over their careers. … It was all-around a great time and a successful meet.”

As the season winds down, the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams will look to end their campaign on a high note as they compete in the Ivy League Championships — which begin on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Providence, Rhode Island. Coverage of the events is available on ESPN+.
