Second Burglary Reported at Chi Phi House During Temporary Suspension

Editor's note: The content in this article mentions sexual assault and drugging.

According to an email to the Cornell community, the Cornell University Police Department responded to the second burglary at the Chi Phi house since the start of its temporary suspension in November.

The email, sent on Monday, stated that CUPD responded to the reported burglary at 107 Edgemoor Ln. at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday. The complainant reported that the burglary occurred between 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 11:30 a.m. on March 1.

At the time of the incident, the building was reportedly unoccupied and “entry was determined to be made forcibly through a basement window.” Property was allegedly taken from within the house.

Chi Phi, which has been temporarily suspended following a report of sexual assault and drugging in October 2024, has experienced a slate of illicit activity after the suspension order was issued on Nov. 8.

Four days after the report, on Nov. 11, a student activist group — self-proclaimed as Riot Moon — vandalized and defaced the Chi Phi house, spray painting the building and breaking windows.

On Jan. 27, CUPD responded to a case of “Criminal Tampering” following reports of “egging” by an unknown individual according to the Cornell University Crime Log

Soon after, an email sent to the Cornell community on Feb. 14 stated that CUPD responded to the first burglary at Chi Phi’s address. The email noted that entry was made forcibly through the basement window between Feb. 12 and Feb. 14. According to the Cornell University Crime Log, three mugs and two trophies were taken from the trophy cabinet located on the first floor totaling a value of $110.00.

The Monday email stated that there is no suspect description available in the second burglary and the investigation is ongoing. Those with information are urged to contact the Cornell University Public Safety Communications Center at (607) 255-1111.
