ClubFest

ClubFest Pushed Forward Due to Winter Storm Warning

Reading time: about 2 minutes

Cornell’s semesterly student club fair, ClubFest, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been moved to Saturday due to a severe winter storm expected to hit Ithaca this Sunday. Forecasts predict a 100% chance of snow on Sunday, currently totaling an estimated 12 to 18 inches, according to The National Weather Service.

The organizers, the Student Union Board and the Campus Activities Office, announced their decision on Friday morning to move the event in an email to the student body. The event will take place in Barton Hall with two sessions —  one from noon to 1:30 p.m. and the second from 2:30 to 4 p.m. — and the SUB assured students that it will proceed as planned.

“We are all working hard behind the scenes to make this the best ClubFest possible given the new timeline!” wrote the SUB in the email.

The National Weather Service currently has a winter storm warning in effect for Ithaca from 1 a.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday. Additionally, there is a cold weather advisory in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday.

Cornell’s Office of Emergency Management also sent an email on Friday to students informing them that campus operations are expected to continue as normal, but urging them to take precautions to prepare for the winter conditions such as dressing appropriately and planning extra time for travel.

This comes amid a major winter storm set to impact the entire Northeast, with some parts of central New York State expected to experience over a foot of snow.

This semester’s ClubFest will feature over 600 registered clubs and student organizations. The event gives students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of options for extracurriculars – from athletics, to pre-professional clubs, to dance teams and volunteer groups.

Students looking for more information on the event should look at the SUB’s Instagram for regular updates.

“We look forward to seeing you on Saturday so we can all be cozy and safe on Sunday!” the SUB wrote.
