University Provost Michael Kotlikoff presented a plan to expand student housing and advance academic initiatives at a Graduate and Professional Student Assembly meeting Monday.
Christopher Hanna ’18, a co-facilitator for the organization, said Trump’s “vicious campaign-season rhetoric” and “horrific platform” pose a serious threat to human rights and the lives of many Cornell students.
“I’m not something unique or special. Everybody has a story and everybody in different situations has to make a choice: to act or to stay aside,” Alyokhina said. “Don’t stay aside otherwise your history will be written by someone else.”
“There is a new freshman class that is experiencing these tragedies, and given the difficulties of a first semester at Cornell, I think it’s very important that ALANA as well as other organizations on campus provide outlets for these students so that they can maintain a good mental health,” Kidane said.
Even without a concert, the traditional homecoming festivities, including fireworks and a laser lights show on Friday and the football game on Saturday, will still occur as scheduled this year.
“This problem directly affects our school so who better to take up the cause than the students,” Habr said. “We [students] are the ones buying the apparel. We have the power and the responsibility to take action.”
“A lot of research that we do involves harvesting light,” Brown said. “You need to harness light in order to get better quality fruits and vegetables, so it really is fitting that we’re harvesting light to cut our energy bills.”
“When you watch Bhangra, it’s really dazzling and colorful,” Gabriela Vega ’19 said. “I think it has such positive energy which really captivates a lot of people.”
“This is how we change the world,” said Jennifer Mandelblatt, president of the ILR women’s Caucus. “This is how we break down barriers, by coming together and so i think we just need to keep getting people to come together for meaningful conversations.”
