Jimmy Boeheim put up a game-high 25 points, but Cornell still suffered a 72-53 loss.
NJIT outscored the Red 43-24 in the second half, shooting 57% from the field and limiting Cornell to just one three-pointer out of its final 16 attempts.
Cornell is 1-0 after an 84-64 win over Binghamton.
“It’s just the nature of college basketball, that every four years you will have a completely new team,” said head coach Brian Earl.
The Red finished tied for seventh out of nine this past Monday and Tuesday in the Hampton Intercollegiate, held at Maidstone Golf Club in East Hampton, New York, scoring a combined total of 943, or 79-over par and good for a tie with Ivy League foe Penn.
Cornell will conclude its fall season in two weekends at the Hampton Intercollegiate.
Senior Jack Casler and junior Charlie Dubiel led Cornell by tying for seventh place individually. Both Casler and Dubiel finished the weekend at two-over par. Their paths to this score, however, were very different.
“We are going to put a lot of emphasis on playing smart and playing to the right spot. Boring golf is usually good golf.”
“We are a lot stronger from top to bottom as compared to last year, and I think that is going to help us be a very competitive team.”
Next season, the Red will return much of the same core as this season with the exception of Cen. The team expects to compete for an Ivy League title — a feat which has never been accomplished in school history.
