For many first-year students, this Sunday’s Fall ClubFest will be the first introduction to Cornell’s many student groups — from dance troupes to professional fraternities, dozens of organizations will be performing, showcasing their activities and recruiting new members.
Prof. Suzanne Mettler Ph.D. ’94, the John L. Senior Professor of American Institutions in the Department of Government — and a leading scholar in American political institutions — was among 167 scholars, artists and scientists awarded a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation on April 16. The Guggenheim Fellowship program is intended to help scholars work with as much creative freedom as possible. This year roughly 3,000 people applied. It provides grants to selected individuals for six to twelve months of time, which they can spend in any matter they deem necessary to their research. Since its establishment in 1925 to 2018, the fellowship has awarded $360 million to 18,000 individuals.
On April 19, Eatery’s app development team announced a new updated version, which will now provide information about Collegetown’s restaurants in addition to on-campus eateries.
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences announced its 214 new members on April 17, an honor distinguishing leaders across disciplines. Members on the list include former First Lady Michelle Obama and author Jonathan Franzen, as well as two Cornellians — Prof. Stephen Ceci, human development, and Prof. Kelly Zamudio, ecology and evolutionary biology.
There are two seasons at Cornell — winter and construction. As the former gradually leaves Ithaca, the latter is also coming to a close for the Cocktail Lounge and the Fine Arts Library this summer.
Plant Science 4190: Cannabis: Biology, Society and Industry will be offered in Fall 2019 by Prof. Carlyn S. Buckler, plant science. The course will explore the history, culture, breeding, horticulture, legal issues and challenges associated with cannabis.
