Dartmouth Ends Lightweight Eight’s Streak

Although beautiful weather and glossy water characterized both racing sites for the crew team’s this weekend, their final results were not nearly as consistent as the weather. The lightweight, women and heavyweight crews completed their final regular season races this Saturday, working out last-minute kinks before the upcoming EARC championship sprint races on May 13th.

Men’s Rowers Win Four of Five; Women Falter

Sometimes, the greatest pressure to win comes when you’ve got something to lose and have already established yourself as the team to beat. That type of pressure, though, didn’t seem to faze the men’s crew squads, who continued to live up to their rankings this past weekend. Currently No. 15 nationally (US Rowing poll), the heavyweights outlasted Navy and Syracuse en route to capturing the Stagg trophy in Annapolis, Md., last Friday, while the No. 1 (EARC poll) lightweights took first place in four out of five boat races against Columbia and MIT Saturday morning on the Cayuga Inlet. The Red women also competed this weekend against Brown and Columbia in Rhode Island, obtaining mixed results — a third-place finish and two second-place finishes.

Polo Prepares for Nationals

As Cornell students try to get through another round of monotonous lectures, unfulfilling problem sets and sub-par Ithaca weather this week, the members of the men’s and women’s Polo teams will be facing some special challenges of their own. The two teams ventured down to the Bluegrass State for the prestigious USPA National Intercollegiate Polo championships will be held over the course of the week. The men and women are set to compete in their first-round matches at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, in the brand new Kentucky Horse Park Arena in Lexington, Ky.

Polo Teams Qualify For NCAA Tourney

The men and women’s Polo teams have earned the right to compete with the best of the best, as both Red squads were granted National tournament bids following solid performances at Regionals last weekend. Yesterday afternoon, both teams traveled south to face national powerhouse UVA for their final regular-season matches.

Polo Teams Shoot for Eastern Regional Championship

Competing for a national title is a special privilege experienced by only the most elite teams. This weekend, both the men’s and women’s polo teams will have the chance to earn that right, as they look to continue their successful seasons in the East-ern Regional championships, held at the Oxley Equestrian Center in Ithaca. Both Red squads can earn bids to the National tournament with strong showings in Regionals today and tomorrow. The Red women will welcome Skidmore College, UConn and UMass, while the men will host Skidmore, Yale, Connecticut and Harvard.

Red Travels to Invites

Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams had strong showings in their tournaments away from Ithaca this weekend.

For the men, Cornell’s No. 40 nationally-ranked doubles pair of juniors, Josh Raff and Nick Brunner, pulled off a huge upset, defeating No. 7 Wake Forest’s duo of Andrew Hamar and Todd Paul in the first round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis championships at the University of Tulsa. Raff and Brunner won the pro-set match by a score of 8-5, advancing to the second round of the tournament.
