Students admitted to the Class of 2020 represent the evolution of Cornell’s demographics, as 1,718 students — or 27 percent of the admitted freshman class — self-identify as minorities.
“When you have a goal you know you can fail,” said Prof. David Shalloway, molecular biology. “It’s important to know you can fail, it’s important to be uncomfortable. We have confidence that we can do it but we have to work hard.”
In an interview with The Sun on Wednesday, the students called the union a “civil rights group” with over 140 members.
“We all care about improving people’s lives; that should always be our focus,” he said. “I will use my voice to influence all Republican candidates at all levels to focus on issues and positive solutions for all Americans.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) remarked upon President Elizabeth Garrett’s ability to challenge the established order, commending her for the steps she took as Cornell’s first female president.
The Chair of the Board of Trustees Robert Harrison ’76 called Garrett a “remarkable human being” and a “vibrant and passionate leader” who he said impacted the lives of countless students, faculty members and friends.
The resolution claims that administrators violated University bylaws by failing to work with the Faculty Senate in making a decision which was a “question of educational policy which concern[s] more than one college, school or separate academic unit.”
A female student has reported that she was assaulted in on Cornell’s campus Wednesday morning, according to the Cornell University Police Department. The student said she was assaulted at approximately 11 a.m. on the pathway between Barnes Hall and Olin Hall. The perpetrator fled the scene in an “unknown direction” following the incident, the CUPD statement said. Reporting the incident today, the victim described the perpetrator as a college-aged male with brown hair who was wearing jeans and a black jacket, according to the police. Investigation of the incident is open and ongoing.
The ranking was based on a survey send to 18,000 hospitality recruiters and managers of luxury hotels around the world.
The group said they plan to continue to unite white students at Cornell and act to counter the “nonsensical” demands of minority groups on campus.
