Cornell Men’s Lacrosse Unable to Answer Big Second Half From No. 3 Yale, Falls to 3-3

The Cornell men’s lacrosse team dropped a match to No. 3 Yale this past Saturday, 15-9, worsening its record to 3-3 for the season. This is the first time the Bulldogs have defeated the Red in the regular season since 1999. “For most of the game, we were pretty sharp on offense and created opportunities,” said freshman attack Colton Rupp, who had a hat trick in the game to continue his stellar rookie campaign. “I think in the second half we got a little insistent and started turning the ball over a little too much and I think that made a difference there,” Rupp said.

In Rematch of Last Year’s Blowout, Albany Again Quiets Cornell Men’s Lacrosse

Just like in last year’s defeat, Cornell men’s lacrosse could not muster much offense against Albany’s goalie. Great Danes’ goalkeeper Blaze Riorden finished the game with 18 saves, limiting the Red to just eight goals. Cornell lost the game, 12-8, worsening its season record to 1-2. “It’s not like we weren’t getting opportunities,” said senior midfielder Ryan Matthews. “I think we could have finished more of our shots and taken advantage of more of those.”

Matthews had two goals in the match.

The Red came away with 10-8 victory in front of 2,000 fans to extend its winning streak against the Statesmen to 12 straight games. Freshman attack Colton Rupp had two of the Red’s 10 goals in the match. “Since we’re a very young team, it was great getting the win,” Rupp said.

Cornell Men’s Lacrosse Takes on Hobart in Florida for First Time in History of Rivalry

East Coast winters can make it tough on a number of sports teams in the area. The Cornell men’s lacrosse team is no exception. Although temperatures are supposed to be quite high this weekend in Ithaca, there is no way to predict these odd changes in weather at the start of the season when teams create their schedules. The Red will take on Hobart this Saturday in West Palm Beach, Fla, marking the first time in the 137-year history of the Cornell-Hobart rivalry that the two teams will play outside of New York State.
