Prosecutors said bus driver Charles Dixon had traces of cocaine in his bloodstream and that the Cornell alumna who died had texted 911 minutes before the crash, warning of Dixon’s erratic driving.
Two people filed complaints with Big Red Bullet in the last year, one of which resulted in the company terminating a bus driver, according to an email from the company obtained by The Sun.
The driver of the Ithaca-to-New-York-City bus that crashed, killing Rebecca Blanco M.B.A. ’17, told police that he “fell asleep at the wheel,” a Pennsylvania state trooper told The Sun on Wednesday.
A Transportation Department agency opened a compliance investigation into Big Red Bullet, the private charter bus company whose bus veered off a Pennsylvania highway Sunday, killing a Cornell alumna and crashing into several trees.
Rebecca Blanco M.B.A. ’17, of Vacaville, Calif., was killed in the crash, authorities confirmed.
The company will be adding completely new buses to its fleet, along with additional amenities that the company hopes will make its rides “more convenient and pleasurable.”
