Ithaca’s ChiliFest will be held this year, albeit with new restrictions: all Chili will be takeout and participants will judge from home. Some restaurants are eager to participate, others not.
Every spring, dietetics students of Nutritional Sciences 4880: Applied Dietetics in Food Service Systems learn how to operate and manage a food service system with practical, hands-on application culminating in themed dinners in West Campus dining rooms. Students are “divided into teams to work with Cornell Dining chefs to design a nutritionally balanced, yet creative and delicious dinner for the greater Cornell community,” and several of us in the dining department had the pleasure of experiencing and reviewing each themed dinner this year. Here’s what we thought!
Cornellians and Ithacans alike warmed up on the frigid day with spoonfuls of warm chili as restaurants competed for Best Meat or Overall Chili, Best Vegetarian or Vegan Chili and People’s Choice Chili
Cincinnati’s chili is unique, but I was excited to expand my views on “real chili” by attending the 19th Annual Great Downtown Ithaca Chili Cook-Off. This was my first year attending in four years, and I wanted to taste all that the competitors could cook up.
“We want to build our community and cultivate a space for anti-fascist organizing,” Eve Anderson ’19 said. “Chili is a great place to start.”
