In the world of academia, women are often under-represented in their field. In light of International Women’s Day, the Sun has highlighted three female professors who have made significant contributions in their field of science and continue to do so, despite facing setbacks.
This semester, Cornell will establish a new minor that aims to break down the divide between science and the general public.
The talk will be held in Statler Auditorium in Statler Hall and will start at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a public reception from 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Statler Hotel Carrier Ballroom.
Ji-Yeon Lim ’21 will represent South Korea in Miss World 2019, one of 130 participants in the oldest running international beauty pageant.
The program consists of several modules, each of which covers a specific issue in social media. Some of them, such as “How to Be an Upstander,” which deals with cyberbullying, aim to teach students certain actions that they could take to play positive roles online. Other modules, such as “Is It Private Information?” teach students how to protect their personal information.
MannUfactory, the student resource hub in Mann Library, hoped to become a creative outlet for Cornellians. However, it has struggled to attract numbers since its opening last fall.
Prof. Lee Humphreys, communication, spoke about her new book, The Qualified Self: Social Media and the Accounting of Everyday Life, and how social media habits in the present day and the 19th century are similar.
Cornell alumnus Alex Kresovich ’08 co-produced rock band Panic! At the Disco’s popular new song “King of the Clouds.” In an email interview with The Sun, Kresovich shared the story behind the song’s making.
McComas’ new responsibilities after July 1st will include serving as an advocate for Cornell’s role as the land-grant university for New York state, monitoring and collaborating on responses to the governor’s initiatives in higher education and economic development, and representing the university’s four contract colleges in dealings with the State University of New York.
