Cornell Outdoor Education Anticipates 50th Anniversary Reunion

The newly formed Cornell Outdoor Educators Coalition aims to promote pay equity and improve working conditions for Cornell Outdoor Education employees.
It won’t be long till the bulk of us find ourselves in cubicles stacked together like sardines, so go fill up on fresh air while you still can. For now, though, you go to a university surrounded by greenery with some of the most robust outdoor programming, all readily available for students. Take advantage of it.
In a 50-year-old tradition, incoming Cornellians are eligible to join an Outdoor Odyssey trip and experience Upstate New York in the wilderness.
Thirteen students are set to trek Mount Everest’s base camp next May. The program can take up to 20 students in an effort to raise $50,000 for WaterAid.
Among those in attendance was President Emeritus Frank Rhodes, who presided over Cornell when Jon Lindseth ’56, the center’s namesake, funded the original climbing wall.
After 25 years of operations, Lindseth Climbing Wall, which is located in Bartels Hall, underwent renovations this summer and is scheduled to open to public next Wednesday. The dedication ceremony for the upgraded 6,200 square foot climbing facility will take place on Oct. 16 at 11 a.m in Bartels Hall.
“We would like to provide people with an increased opportunity to continue developing their skills and, hopefully, becoming life-long climbers,” said Andrew McLaughlin, climbing programs coordinator.
