“[Records] seem [to be] going right out the window. Everybody’s splitting right now, and it’s really, really close,” Schafer said.
Senior forward Kyle Penney, senior forward Jack O’Leary and sophomore defenseman Hoyt Stanley were given disqualifications and will be forced to sit out for the next game.
As head coach Mike Schafer ’86 suited up for the first time as a player in 1982, so continued relentless antics and some of the most iconic games between Harvard and Cornell in their 115-year-old rivalry.
“It’s just provided a lot of great memories, both for and against, and it’s just a lot of fun,” Schafer said.”
The shootout win delivers Cornell an important extra point for the ECAC standings and wraps up a weekend in which the Red secured 5/6 points.
“We have been really talking a lot about just being consistent in our play and consistent in our habits,” Derraugh said. “It’s never perfect, but I thought we were pretty good today in that regard.”
Cornell capitalized on its chances and scored a season-high six goals — including one on the power play — for its first regulation road win of the season.
“I thought last night we probably deserved a better fate. Didn’t get it,” Jones said. “So we should have responded today and came out with the effort and attitude to get it done here tonight. But we wanted some shortcuts.”
The Red fired 41 shots on goal, but only one found the back of the net in its 1-1 tie with Sacred Heart
