Forbes, the chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media and former Republican presidential candidate, blamed the current economic rut on correctable policy errors in a lecture sponsored by the Cornell Republicans on Wednesday.
A businessman and a politician, Forbes will detail his predictions for the American economy under the Trump administration on Oct. 25.
Former mayor of Indianapolis Greg Ballard detailed the role oil plays in international politics at a talk hosted by Cornell Republicans and Cornell Political Union.
“I will admit because we are a liberal campus, we have had more opportunities to poke things in the Republican faces over the years.”
There was little agreement at the debate and each side contested the validity of statistics and political facts raised by the other.
“I think it’s important to realize how much the world has changed.”
It’s the kind of phrase that sounds bold at first, but blander the second time. But context matters. This past year, we’ve seen Britain exit the European Union, a rejection of refugees from multiple countries and resurgence of the far right in countries such as France and the Netherlands. At the epicenter, of course,was Donald Trump, the tweet-mugging, bombastic, always entertaining leader of the free world.
Cornell Police said there were no incidents at the lecture, which about 600 attended, and the most testy exchange was when Gingrich asked a questioner why she believed that Trump is not promoting women’s rights.
In an interview with The Sun on Monday, Corn brushed off the pundit’s tweet, saying the insult made her wonder about Coulter’s priorities.
Olivia Corn ’19, chair of Cornell Republicans, said Gingrich was the best candidate to explain the confusion surrounding Trump’s presidency to the “liberal Cornell” community.
“The University, through its current policy — intentional or not — imposes additional financial and administrative costs on groups wishing to host conservative speakers,” said Troy LeCaire ’17, president of the Cornell Political Union.
