During his time as a runner, John Reif ’86 was known for his positivity, work ethic and fiercely loyal support of his teammates.
While five Cornellians represented the United States at this year’s Summer Olympic Games, Taylor Knibb ’20 and Kyle Dake ’13 each managed to find their way onto the podium.
“The season, if you had to use one word to categorize it, is a season full of surprises.”
“Honestly, I have no words. It’s kind of like a dream.”
“[The meet] was definitely a step in the right direction from last year,” junior co-captain Paul Casavant said.
“[The team] worked really well together, supported one another, and fed off of each other’s energy to come in really strong into the final stretch,” said senior Victoria Casarrubias.
“I think [the team’s performance] was good. We definitely have places we want to work on but the point of the meet was to gain experience and we did just that,” said senior Taylor Knibb.
Competing at its biggest meet yet, Cornell notched 10th and 21st place finishes on the women’s and men’s sides, respectively.
“Everyone’s open to the change and excited about it, and I think it’s a positive impact for everyone on the team.”
Transfer Student Ari Dubow ’21 — after building the bike from used pieces he had found at secondhand stores — traveled for nearly two months, ultimately covering around 4,500 miles.
