Right after finishing his first semester in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Clyde Lederman is running as a Democrat for a seat as alderperson of Ithaca’s fifth ward in the Common Council.
Incumbent Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten (D) won the Democratic D.A. primary in a comeback victory over Edward Kopko, who led election night returns with 57.5 percent of the vote. Tompkins County Legislator Anna Kelles (D-2nd District) maintained her election night lead, cruising to victory in the primary race for New York State assembly.
National calls for police reform laid at the forefront of the Tompkins County Democratic Committee’s final assembly candidate forum: Prof. Sujata Gibson, law, lended support to the growing “defund” movement, while other candidates pledged to work with unions to reimagine community policing.

I would rather have Bernie Sanders as president, but Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee. Such is Sanders’ electability problem, distilled. His policies and ideology may be more in line with mine but his chances in the general election are slim. Despite polls’ projections of Sanders’ electoral strength against the top flight of GOP contenders, Americans’ ideological attitudes towards what they consider socialism will prevail in denying him victory. Why else would the Republican Party support and defend Bernie “Hammer and Sickle” Sanders?
