The race for Tompkins County District Attorney has seen its fair share of mudslinging: Edward Kopko had routinely slammed incumbent Matthew Van Houten’s record on racial justice, an increasingly pertinent campaign message amid a national reckoning on racial injustice in the United States.
Hosted by the Tompkins County Democratic Committee, the forum focused partly on District Attorney Matthew Van Houten’s relationship with law enforcement and on New York State’s recently passed bail reform.
Democratic candidates for Tompkins County District Attorney, New York State Senate and State Assembly debated their policies during a virtual candidate forum.
“Was justice accomplished? I don’t know,” District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said on Thursday. “That depends on who you ask.”
