A mock wedding, staged by Climate Justice Cornell, married Cornell University and the fossil fuel industry in protests of The University’s unwillingness to divest from fossil fuels. Protesters donned orange for Global Divestment Day while marching down Ho Plaza carrying larger than life puppets.
On Friday, a coalition of student activist groups flooded Ho Plaza, where organizers gave speeches and led chants, and then the crowd marched through the streets before returning to Day Hall to stage a sit-in.
“If shared governance is to have any real meaning, you must respect this unique, united decision and consider this matter seriously,” said Prof. David Shalloway, urging the Board of Trustees to divest the University’s endowment from fossil fuels.
