Students have voiced concerns surrounding the applicability and equity of the graduation requirement following updates to Cornell’s swim test, which now requires a one-minute tread before a non-stop, 25-yard swim.
For the second time this year, Cornell has waived the swim test graduation requirement, excusing students who will graduate in fall 2020 or spring 2021.
Pepinsky explained that the committee’s new recommendations did make some “compromises” in an effort not to “disproportionately burden” students with heavy course loads.
I came to Cornell to learn lots of things. That’s what college is all about: learning shit. Among the things I’m most proud of learning are various intricacies of contemporary art history, how to roll my own cigarette and how to contract mono. The Ivy League education system is filled to the brim with diverse educational opportunities, some in the classroom and some outside. As a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, I have a bunch of specific requirements to complete so I can graduate.
