CUPD has identified a potential student suspect for the Jan. 21 vandalism of the A.D. White statue with pro-Palestinian messages.
“Divest from death” and “occupation=death” were spray painted in dark red on the Andrew Dickson White statue on the Arts Quad on the first day of the spring 2025 semester.
On the first day of the fall semester, activists smashed Day Hall’s front door glass and spray-painted “Israel bombs, Cornell pays” along the entrance.
Around the nation, students have grown divided on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Protests have erupted, individuals have grown frustrated and angry towards those that fail to see their side. But are students expressing their anger in effective ways?
Various campus demonstrations expressing viewpoints on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict occurred this week, including anti-Israel graffiti, a rally in support of Palestine and a Jewish community gathering.
A number of Ithaca businesses, as well as five Cornell students, were targeted by white supremacist vandalism on Oct. 26.
The statue could be seen with the red spray-painted words for under two hours.
