The IFC president and the director of sorority and fraternity life sent an email lifting the ban on social events while implementing new measures for students’ healthy and safety.
At the bottom of Dryden Road and about half a block down from Mehak lies Souvlaki House, a Greek and Italian-inspired restaurant hidden in plain sight.
Due to a winter storm that struck the greater Tompkins area Saturday night, Cornell University’s Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council had to make changes to their recruitment timelines, including pushing recruitment timelines back a week.
The Presidential Task Force on Campus Climate submitted three preliminary reports to President Pollack on Tuesday, recommending that Cornell provide more diversity education and be allowed to punish students for creating a “hostile environment.”
Regardless of what the Interfraternity Council wants you to believe, fraternity is not for all. Most of us live in varying degrees of denial of this fact, but repeating “Greek life is bad” over and over dulls the message to those who need to hear it, and prevents us from discussing the deeper issues. The first fraternities were made up of wealthy white men who had enough free time to sit around and come up with elitist group names. It is and always has been exclusionary. Everyone loves to shit on Greek life, but we are all components of the system.

“The purpose of a summit is to create a space for the student body to share how they feel about the campus climate surrounding sexual violence,” Kahn said. “We hope to leave here with a better understanding of how to improve our culture, both Greek and non-Greek, here on campus.”
Any Cornellian who watches the show Greek has probably noticed a few similarities to life on the hill that seem like more than just coincidences. From an alma mater that begins with “Far above … ”, to mention of a historic clock tower, it turns out these references are very much intentional thanks to Jessica O’Toole ’94. O’Toole is a writer and co-producer of ABC Family’s Greek. The Sun spoke with the former Daily Sun writer about her time at Cornell, the ties between Greek and the Big Red and what viewers can look forward to in the upcoming season.
The third season of Greek premieres next Monday, Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. on ABC Family.
