A victory against Brown would ensure Cornell a place in the upcoming Ivy League Championships.
“We really think we can do well at the [Ivy] championships this year.”
“Announce the Princeton score,” fans yelled excitedly.
“Donahue doesn’t want it announced,” came the reply from press row.
But with less than two minutes left, men’s basketball head coach Steve Donahue’s wife decided it was time for him and his team to know what everyone else already did — the Red was mere minutes away from its second straight Ivy title.
“I guess everyone else knew [that Princeton was losing],” Donahue said, laughing. “My wife yelled something at me, and I find out I’m the only guy that didn’t know. I was thinking since I didn’t hear anything, that Princeton had won.”
Good things so often come in three’s: three’s a charm, the Three Stooges, Tic-Tac-Toe. But this Saturday in Providence, R.I., the men’s lacrosse team hopes for its own special three — three outright conference titles in the past five years. The No. 2/4 Red, riding high from its 10-7 upset victory over then-No. 1 Princeton last Saturday, will be fighting for the chance to take sole possession of the Ivy League championship by beating the No. 13/13 Bears, currently in second place in the Ancient Eight standings.
“For us it’s such a big game, we want to have an outright Ivy title,” said senior midfielder Max Seibald. “When we share the title we actually don’t get to keep the Ivy trophy for the entire year.”
The equestrian team brought home an Ivy League championship with its 41-point performance on Saturday at Volvo Farm in Westford, Mass. Freshman Justine Gentilini was one of two riders at the event to win both of her classes (Novice Fences and Intermediate Flat) and won the High Point Rider for the competition. Four Cornell riders won individual titles and three finished as reserve champions. Sophomore Rachel Klion won the Novice Fences championship, senior Caroline Shulman won the Open Flat, junior Zoe Samuel won the Intermediate Flat and sophomore Morgan Broccoli won the Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter championship. Cornell’s reserve champions were junior Brooke Cagwin (Open Fences), sophomore Mary Winans (Intermediate Flat) and junior Elizabeth Briggs (Advanced Walk /Trot/ Canter).

Men’s basketball 83, Penn 59
Cornell clinched its second straight Ivy title and the accompanying berth to the NCAA tournament with a dominant 83-59 win over Penn on Friday night. The Red’s win coupled with Princeton’s 58-44 loss to Columbia handed Cornell the title.
Junior Ryan Wittman had a game-high 25 points, largely on his 6-of-10 performance from behind the arc. The game was back-and-forth in the first half but the Cornell defense played hard and the team pulled away for the win.

You can go big or go home. The men’s basketball team has the opportunity to do both, as the last weekend of the Red’s regular season will be at Newman Arena — against perennial contender Penn tonight, followed by a Princeton team that has returned from obscurity to hold the No. 2 record in the Ancient Eight.
The wrestling team captured its seventh consecutive Ivy League Championship with two victories this past weekend. The second-ranked Red (12-2, 5-0 Ivy) dominated matches against Brown (4-6, 3-2 Ivy) and Harvard (5-12, 2-3 Ivy) as the team completed its regular season schedule.
“[Winning the Ivy League] is real exciting, but it’s really just the beginning,” said sophomore Corey Manson. “We’ve got the EIWA tournament and the NCAA tournament coming up. Our goal is to ultimately win the National Title.”
