MEDLIFE is an organization dedicated to providing equitable healthcare globally. The organization aims to address the gaps in healthcare infrastructure by partnering with local doctors, setting up mobile clinics and empowering students through fundraising and service learning trips.
“[What] mattered to all of us was bringing more awareness to students about what is happening right here in Ithaca,” Winnie Ho ’19, a member of APO, explained as she introduced the panelists with Delmar Fears ’19, Engaged Ambassador, and Matthew Guo ’20, president of Medife. “We are aware of what’s going on in our own lives but we fail to see what is happening around us.”
The MEDLIFE students and doctors worked in mobile clinics and traveled from village to village across Southern Lima. Students acted as informal medical and dental assistants, working in tents that were set up roadside.
Winnie Ho ’19, president of APO and MEDLIFE Cornell, thought the event was a good chance to “hear from experts in the field about the realities of drug use and what it looks like.”
