Having read this short run-down, you’ll be ready to engage your friend group’s resident cinephile in a number of conversations they’ll treasure for years to come.
Friday’s engaging conversation with the Academy-Award winning director took place in a sold-out Bailey Hall and featured Prof. Samantha Sheppard, performing and media arts. It was co-hosted by the Cornell University Program Board and the Multicultural Concert Funding Advisory Board.
To sum up, the actual Oscars didn’t get the job done, so I’m here one last time to go through the best scenes of the year in cinema.
Best Picture, the crown jewel of the night and, supposedly, the best film released in 2018. And they gave it to Green Book.
As the Oscars remain hostless, an interesting stage has been set for the presenters.
Damien Chazelle is rapidly cementing himself as one of the most talented young filmmakers working today. Although it would be fair to accuse “First Man” of being a vehicle for director Damien Chazelle to show off with a somewhat thin screenplay underneath, I’m very much down to watch Chazelle flexing for the next 50 years. He brought me back to my childhood and made me feel like I wanted to be an astronaut again.
Josh Fox, an Oscar nominee and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, will bring his discussion of environmental issues to Bailey Hall Friday night with a solo monologue, The Truth Has Changed.
What an absolute shock that Pixar won Best Animated Feature. Okay, so sarcasm doesn’t translate well into text. It was practically certain that Pixar’s Coco would end up with the coveted Oscar. Of course, when half of its competition is Ferdinand and The Boss Baby, it had a relatively easy path forward. Now there has been plenty of discourse about how the animation nominations are selected, and plenty of discourse over whether it’s proper for Disney to win the award so often.
