The University Assembly passed a resolution allowing the University Counsel to decide revisions to the code of conduct.
In a semesterly meeting with The Sun, President Martha E. Pollack shared her hopes for on-campus reform, reaffirmed her dedication to “transparency” in the investigation of Antonio Tsialas’s death and promised plans for increasing student socioeconomic diversity as she prepares to wrap up her fifth semester in Cornell’s highest office.
Four proposals were selected from a pool of 30 applications. A committee surveyed Cornell students and faculty from both campuses in order to make their final decisions on the recipients of $250,000 in grant money.
Pollack described how students are “applying in droves” and professors, as well as government agencies, non-governmental organizations and industry, are “saying yes to Cornell.”
In response to what they called a “systemic failure” on the part of Cornell, Sophie’s parents, Scott MacLeod and Susan Hack, asked the University to establish an independent, externally-led body that would be tasked with reviewing the mental health challenges facing Cornell students .
President Martha Pollack addressed questions about how free speech applies to University employees and encouraged risk-taking.
John P. A. Greenwood ’20, the student charged on Monday with a hate crime and who prosecutors and witnesses say punched a black student and called him the N-word in September, is currently “not on campus,” Pollack said.
Pollack argued the proposal would have a “perverse effect,” increasing the costs of Cornell while harming its ability to provide a quality education.
Less than a week after the administration informed students of updates to the presidential task force, President Martha Pollack detailed the nomination process.
