SPRINT FOOTBALL | Ballers Finish Season With a Win

Coming off of a loss to Navy two weeks ago, the Cornell sprint football team travelled down to Waterbury, Connecticut, this past Friday to take on Post University in its final game of the season. Head coach Bart Guccia has stressed the importance of finishing all year long in practices and games and — although the Red (4-3-0) did not finish the season with a league championship — the team certainly finished strong. “Our preseason goals were to possibly win the championship, but that didn’t come to fruition,” Guccia said. “We had our chances in the games we lost but made a few mistakes at critical times that ended up hurting us, but one thing about this team is that they never quit.”

With junior quarterback Rob Pannullo out with an ACL tear, freshman quarterback Connor Ostrander stepped up to lead the Red to victory. He had his best game of the season, completing 9-13 passes for 152 passing yards and rushing for an additional 52 yards.

SPRINT FOOTBALL | Cornell Drops Game to Quakers

The Cornell men’s sprint football team let up 26 points in the first half of last Friday’s game against the University of Pennsylvania, the most it has let up in the first half of a game all season. The Red (2-2-0) outscored the Quakers (3-1-0) in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome Penn’s powerful start.

The Army West Point sprint football program can never be taken lightly. A powerful rushing defense combined with a penetrating offense makes reaching the end zone against this powerhouse nearly impossible. The Cornell sprint football team dropped this past Saturday’s conference game to the Black Knights, 33-0, and ultimately fell to 2-1 on the season. The Knights were coming off an 86-0 victory over Princeton the previous week and have yet to give up a point all season. In three games, the Knights have outscored their opponents 153-0.

SPRINT FOOTBALL | Sprint Easily Blows by Mansfield in Opening Contest

“Our focus this year has been to finish games,” explained Cornell sprint football head coach Bart Guccia. The Red did just that in its 33-7 victory over Mansfield on Saturday, completing a 26-0 run over the last three quarters. The victory extended the Red’s (1-0) career undefeated streak against Mansfield (0-1). “Both the offense and defense did an excellent job in closing out the game,” Guccia said. “The defense shut them out after their initial score, and the offense was able to put some points on in the fourth quarter and seal the deal.”

“Both sides of the ball executed and finished in the second half and especially in the fourth quarter,” senior offensive co-captain and wide receiver Trevor Marrero added.
