“I think everyone was pretty excited. Obviously it’s a different thing than playing for the team.”
After a somewhat expected seventh place finish at the CSA National Championships, both the men and women are gearing up for the the Individuals National Championships.
“So, for us, [playing Penn before] is definitely an advantage. We will go in have fun, and ultimately, you never know what can happen.”
Trying to finish the season on a high, neither the men’s or women’s team was able to snatch a victory in their final matches of the regular season before nationals.
Both the men’s and women’s squash teams are hoping for a big weekend on the road against some tough competition in Harvard and Dartmouth.
“We have been physically working hard this week, and it is going to be a busy weekend…But I am optimistic that we are capable of winning.”
The men’s squash team failed to become National Champions when the Red lost to Drexel in the final round of the Hoehn Cup. The women defeated Columbia in a close match to take seventh for Nationals in the Howe Cup.
Winner takes all. It is that time of year again for the Cornell women’s and men’s squash teams: the postseason. Both teams secured spots into Nationals following impressive seasons. The eighth-ranked women’s team finished the season at 9-7, losing its last match to No. 2 Penn in a 9-0 decision.
Nationals are approaching fast for the men’s and women’s squash teams. The women have three more games to prepare while the men have four. Both teams matched up against Harvard and Dartmouth this past weekend and have two more Ivy League games next week against Penn and Princeton. qThe men’s team dropped both of its matches this past weekend, losing to Harvard 8-1 and Dartmouth 5-4. The Red (3-8) are still very much in contention for a B Division title despite the losses and put on a much better effort than what the final scores showed.
The men’s and women’s squash teams traveled down to New Haven this past weekend to compete in the Yale Round Robin tournament. The No. 12 men’s team finished the weekend 0-2, dropping matches to Drexel and George Washington. The No. 8 women’s squash team finished the weekend 2-1, beating Drexel and George Washington but losing to powerful No.
