The University ended its contract with Starbucks in July of 2023, following protests over the chains’ treatment of workers.
Cornell will no longer be serving Starbucks products on campus following the current contract’s expiration in June 2025. This comes after a recent NLRB ruling that found Starbucks took advantage of Cornell’s academic breaks to punish pro-union employees.
Starbucks is guilty of violating U.S. labor laws in its employee treatment and store closures at unionized Ithaca locations, according to a Thursday decision from the National Labor Relations Board.
Students and Workers continue to demand the University to take action after Ithaca store closures
Students and Starbucks employees alike participated in a takeover of Day Hall on Thursday. The occupation was in order to force Starbucks off campus in the wake of the announced closures of the two remaining Ithaca locations.
Starbucks has announced that it will close its two remaining Ithaca locations on E. Seneca Street and S. Meadow Street by May 26.
