The Sun interviewed the two executive vice president candidates about their backgrounds and visions for the Student Assembly.
Three out of five candidates for president of the Student Assembly fielded challenging questions in a Tuesday forum moderated by The Sun.
Multiple public policy students told The Sun that they never received ballots to elect the four Student Assembly freshman representatives.
Candidates for the Student Assembly Representative positions sat down together in forums and shared their aspirations for the positions.
Moments after being sworn in, Student Assembly President Pedro Da Silveira ’25 was voted out of office by his S.A. peers due to an arising sexual assault allegation. The current president of the S.A. is unclear due to discrepancies in the governing documents.
The 2023-2024 year Student Assembly representatives were announced on Tuesday.
On Thursday, the Student Assembly passed Resolution 31 — which pushes for University-mandated content warnings for graphic and sensitive material in classrooms — and disputed Resolution 32, which proposed amended election rules.
The results of the Student Assembly elections for the 2022-2023 school year are in with Valeria Valencia ’23 winning the position of SA President.
Although candidates are making tremendous effort to garner support for their campaigns while SA voting is open, many students say they do not know much about the S.A. or what its purpose is.
So, today I encourage you to reclaim that power. Use your voices to demand better. Vote in this spring’s Student Assembly elections from May 2 to May 4.
