The United Auto Workers Local 2300 and Cornell have ratified an agreement, following two weeks of strikes.
“Once you start working here and you’ve got a family, you’re never going to see them,” a striking worker told The Sun.
Approximately 150 protesters from The Coalition for Mutual Liberation filled Klarman Hall and urged the University to divest from weapons manufacturers and agree to the United Auto Workers Local 2300 demands.
On the first day of the fall semester, activists smashed Day Hall’s front door glass and spray-painted “Israel bombs, Cornell pays” along the entrance.
After the passage of a strike authorization vote on Thursday, hundreds of local leaders and members of UAW Local 2300 rallied around campus to support a contract negotiation for University workers.
Cornell workers represented by United Auto Workers Local 2300 have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike that could coincide with new student move-in.
In negotiations with Cornell University, the United Auto Workers are asking for substantial wage increases and cost-of-living adjustments amid understaffing and inflation.
