Women’s Hockey Looks to Snap Losing Streak

Four weeks ago, Cornell scored six goals against the Bulldogs and notched 48 shots against the Bears in a tie. Having only recodred two goals in the last three games, the team desperately needs to get out of its scoring slump against Yale and Brown. Going on the road with such high stakes at play would seem to put Cornell at a disadvantage, but it is quite the opposite. The Red has only one home victory all season and are over .500 on the road.

Facing two ranked teams with sparkling goalie save percentages and minuscule goals-allowed-per-game averages, Cornell women’s hockey could only muster one goal in 120 minutes of play. The Red (9-12-4, 5-9-4 ECAC) — currently in ninth place in the ECAC — was not able to pick up any ECAC points in a winless weekend. They fell 4-1 to Quinnipiac (23-2-4, 13-2-3) on Friday evening and gave up two empty net goals en route to a 5-0 loss to Princeton (19-5-1, 12-5-1) Saturday afternoon. The final score of a hockey game is not always indicative of how both teams played. Quinnipiac was very strong on Friday, with impressive individual performances that demonstrated why they are first in the ECAC and ranked fourth in the country.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY | Icers Sweep Vermont Classic on Weekend

The Cornell women’s hockey team swept the Vermont Classic this past weekend, dominating both Boston University and Vermont in the process. The team clung on to its momentum from last weekend, where it netted six goals against Mercyhurst. The Red tallied an impressive eight goals over the two games, defeating Boston, 4-2, and Vermont, 4-0. Senior forwards Cassandra Poudrier and Taylor Woods, as well as freshman forward Pippy Gerace each scored two goals on the weekend. Sophomore defenseman Sarah Knee and senior forward Jess Brown added the other two goals for the Red.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY | Jess Brown’s Late Goal Helps Women’s Ice Hockey Tie Colgate

Tuesday night’s game at Lynah was a tight one, going back and forth all game. Sometimes it seemed as though Cornell (2-4-2, 1-2-2 ECAC) would pull off the victory, other times Colgate (6-2-5, 0-1-4) would gain the momentum. While it looked as if the Red was going to let this one slip away, Cornell was able to fight back. A goal from senior Jess Brown with only 17.6 seconds left in regulation secured overtime, and led to a 3-3 tie with the Raiders. Cornell put themselves on the board only 2:48 into the game to give the home team a 1-0 leader over the Raiders.
