Despite outshooting the Bulls 15-14, the Red struggled to convert shots into goals in its season opening defeat.
Sun assistant sports editor Raphy Gendler sat down with senior co-captains and best friends Jessica Ritchie and Meghan Kennedy to discuss Cornell women’s soccer and their upcoming season. Ritchie, a midfielder, and Kennedy, a goalkeeper, talked about their growth in three previous seasons, a team “culture change” and their roles as co-captains.
Looking to put last season’s losing record far in the rearview mirror, a 100th minute overtime goal powered the Red to an auspicious season opening victory.
Unable to produce any goals in a hard-fought loss on Dartmouth’s senior day, Cornell claimed last place in the Ivy League
Cornell is now scoreless in four straight games.
“The work ethic on the team is great so I think they will build off of things we learned this year to be really successful in the upcoming years.”
The team will celebrate this season’s eight graduating players on Saturday when it faces Brown at home on Berman Field.
Junior goalie Meghan Kennedy posted a career-high 10 saves in the Red’s second straight shutout.
It’s been tough sledding to start the season for the team, which now includes a loss in its Ivy League opener.
“The past five or six games have been really tuning things out, figuring out what’s the best way to proceed and what’s our plan of attack going to be.”
