After starting the season with an 0-2 mark, the Red went 6-3 over the break.
Even though the Red has embarked on this 2019 season without four of its top wrestlers, Cornell’s 2019 results in the tournament eclipsed its performance last year. In 2018, Cornell secured only 40 points, placing 21st in the invitational.
“Even though we lost, I thought the guys wrestled a lot better this week,” Koll said.
Cornell lost four matches by just a single point.
With Yianni Diakomihalis and three others taking the year off to train for the Olympics, Cornell wrestling will have a different look during the 2019-20 season.
Ben Honis’s final year of NCAA eligibility will be spent as a linebacker with his hometown Orange.
After an uneasy first day, Cornell rebounded to have an unforgettable tournament.
All seven Cornellians are seeded in the top half of the bracket, making a run-in with the No. 1 seed something to fear sooner than later.
“It’s hard to be upset with six finalists. But we are greedy, and we expect more.”
Ohio State started fast and Cornell ended strong but it wasn’t enough for a final dual victory before postseason action.
