Baseball Takes One of Three From Defending Ivy Champion Columbia

The Cornell baseball team is coached by first-year head coach Dan Pepicelli and led by a nine player council. In its 146-year history, the team has amassed a 1665-1839-34 record; a .475 win percentage. The Red has had 14 players drafted by the MLB since the draft began in 1965.
“It was certainly one of the most dominant things I’ve seen in relief in all my time,” Pepicelli said.
By the end of the 6th inning, Cornell was down by two runs but the offense awakened late in the game to put up four runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings combined. Relief pitcher junior John Natoli tossed 3 and one-third scoreless to clinch the victory for the Red, earning a win for himself as well.
Cornell notched its first win of the year, but the Midshipmen didn’t let it happen easily.
“It’s probably not going to be about compiling a great record at the beginning of the year for us with this type of scheduling,” Head Coach Dan Pepicelli said. “But there’s a great opportunity for us to improve before the season starts.”
Baylor dominated Cornell in three straight games over the weekend.
Despite a rocky 2018 Cornell is optimistic as it begins a new season in Texas.
Cornell took two of three from Brown, but was eliminated from playoff contention this weekend.
