Winner of eight Ivy titles, the Cornell men’s basketball program has a long, rich history. The team most recently won the league in 2010 when the men advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Red is coached by Bill Courtney, a coach noted for his use of an up-tempo, quick-paced style of play. The 2015-16 captains are junior guard Robert Hatter and senior guard Robert Mischler.

“It was kind of a no-brainer for me to be able to come home and play for my dad, with Buddy, and all the other great guys on the team,” Boeheim said at a Cornell press conference. “That has been my whole life — more or less up to this point.”
The future still looks bright for the Red on the court, with four promising recruits currently verbally committed to Cornell next year.
“This change is a direct result of the pandemic and will not be available in future years,” the statement read. “The waiver provides current 4th-year students the opportunity to complete their athletics experience at their current institution in 2021-22 after staying on track to graduate in four years.”
“I couldn’t imagine finding out right now that our season was canceled,” said Jimmy Boeheim’s brother, Buddy. “All the hard work he’s put in this summer. We worked out every day together. I was really looking forward to see what he was going to do this year. He was going to have a big year.”
“We’re understanding more about how we’re going to get our shots,” head coach Brian Earl said. “What you saw tonight is we had a lot of good looks at the basket.”
