As I sat amid her art pieces which embody all of these pensive thoughts, I see “Burial Haptics” as a culmination of Lu’s self-reflections of the grieving, healing and remembrance of life and death.
Spring semesters have always had a rapid cadence but this year, March slipped straight to May and April was an immaterial haze. Perhaps my April was also marked by the exhaustion of four nearly back-to-back exhibitions in the Johnson Museum.
This piece, more than any of the preceding, feels deeply personal. The jumble of numerous shapes and words suggests the full scope of a history that spans many generations, movements upon movements: change, loss, memory and transformation.
