The Red will battle the Garnet Chargers on Friday before honoring its senior class on Saturday night after the RPI clash.
Cornell endured a last-second comeback, disallowed overtime goal, and seven-round shootout en route to its latest tie.
The tough, game-tying goal with 26 seconds left by the Golden Knights came after two straight minor penalties taken by Cornell in the final 6:30 of the contest, capping off a game riddled with discipline issues on both sides.
“Our guys understand where we’re at,” said head coach Mike Schafer ’86. “We can’t afford a slip-up.”
The title is the 13th under head coach Mike Schafer ’86 and marks Cornell’s second consecutive title.
While the goals didn’t come as easily as they have in recent games, Cornell dominated the Bears, aided by junior goaltender Ian Shane’s third clean sheet of the season.
Two victories this weekend would secure men’s hockey at least a share of the Ivy League title, crowning it as champion for the second-straight year.
The win marks another road-trip sweep and extends Cornell’s unbeaten streak to 12 games — the longest unbeaten stretch by any Division-I team this year.
With the win, Cornell eclipses the 30-point mark in the ECAC.
Cornell is 7-0-3 in its last 10 as it heads to take on RPI and Union for the first time this season.
