Cornell rowing teams had some fun on the water while racing with crazy costumes.
Cornell Heavyweight Rowing remembers the legacy of captain Jack Robinson, who passed away in February after a long battle with cancer.
“I think we had a really great setup going into this weekend,” said Kennett. “We talked a lot about preparing ourselves to not just try our best, but to actually do it. A lot of the crews, having multiple chances to race, really tuned in, paid attention to the details and had a chance to execute during each race.”
Men’s heavyweight rowing finished in second for the Carnegie Cup, squaring off against Princeton and Yale.
After over a year without athletic competition, the men’s heavyweight rowing team brought Cornell athletics back to Cayuga’s waters in a dominant performance against Marist and No. 17-ranked Hobart on May 8.
“Not only was I taking on a new school, … I was now taking on an entire sport and rowing at the collegiate level — they’re a D-1 team, and they’re all boys,” said Teevyah Yuva Raju. “To be a 5’2” coxswain and walk into a room full of 6’4”, 6’5”, 200-lb guys is no easy feat.”
