Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the Tompkins County Court on Monday to call for the release of Ithaca resident Nagee Green, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2017 for fatally stabbing Ithaca College student Anthony Nazaire on Cornell’s campus.
Judge John C. Rowley sentenced Green to three years for second-degree assault and 17 years to life for second-degree murder, which will run consecutively.
The murder happened on Aug. 28, 2016, when Anthony Nazaire — a 19-year-old Ithaca college student — was fatally stabbed in front of Olin Hall.
A new trial will begin next week for the man accused of murdering Ithaca College student Anthony Nazaire on Cornell’s campus, following a mistrial in June.
The case will likely be retried.
After an investigation that lasted nearly 10 weeks, Green was taken into custody a little after 1:30 p.m. last Monday while waiting for a bus in Freeville, N.Y., where he sometimes resides.
Cornell’s Prof. Lance Salisbury, law — and Green’s defense attorney — told the court Monday that Green has no previous convictions, according to The Ithaca Voice.
