The Cornell women’s lacrosse was officially recoginized by the University as a varsity sport in 1972. They are currently coached by Jenny Graap ’86, who has led the team to one Ivy League Title, one NCAA Final Four appearance and has coached 80 all-ivy selections.
Powered by great performances across the board, the women’s lacrosse team (5-0, 2-0 Ivy) faced off against Columbia (2-3, 0-2) and continued their undefeated season in a 14-7 win over the Lions.
On Saturday, the Cornell women’s lacrosse team (3-0, 1-0 Ivy) faced off against Yale (2-3, 0-1 Ivy) in its first Ivy League matchup of the season. In front of a supportive home crowd at Schoellkopf Field, the Red managed to gain the upper hand over Yale and weather a late furious comeback attempt by the Bulldogs to end with the win, 10-6.
The Cornell women’s lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 Ivy) takes on Yale in its first Ivy League matchup of the season this Saturday in Ithaca, and the spotlight will be on senior captain Emily Tripodi, who has the chance to enter the chronicles of Cornell lacrosse history and become the all time assist leader for the women’s program. The Red is already undefeated on the season, and ran through its first two opponents Villanova and the University of Albany — with strong performances from many players. Eight members of the team have scored in the first two matchups, and they are only getting better at playing together. “We are starting to get our game chemistry down, which anybody would tell you is an essential piece to find in the spring,” Tripodi said. “Offensively we have players who are ready to produce, and we are tightening up our mental game and our skills to fulfill our potential.”
The team’s offensive squad has mainly stayed the same as last year’s, with senior Olivia Mattyasovszky and junior Amie Dickson leading the pack.
It was closer than wanted, but the Cornell women’s lacrosse team (1-0) held off a late rally and earned a 7-6 victory over the Villanova Wildcats (0-2) at Schoellkopf Field to open up its 2016 campaign Saturday afternoon.
