Lazio to Visit Ithaca Area

Rep. Rick Lazio (N.Y.–2nd), Senate candidate, will stop in Tompkins County for a campaign rally and buffet luncheon on Saturday.

Lazio will travel by bus, arriving to the sounds of a Dixieland band. The rally will be held at Celebrations, a local restaurant.

“We expect 400 or 500 people there,” said Amy Gershkoff ’02, chair of Leaders for Lazio.

Local Republican candidates will accompany Lazio at the rally to urge voters to support the Republican ticket.

Members of the College Republicans and Leaders for Lazio will each send between 20 and 30 students to the rally, according to College Republicans treasurer Jessie King ’02.

“We’ve been licensed to bring as many students as we want,” Gershkoff said.

This visit marks the third time Lazio has stopped in Tompkins County to campaign. The Tompkins County Republican Party will sponsor the event.

Lazio spoke in Cayuga Heights on Sept. 22. The College Republicans sent several students to that rally to cheer Lazio on.

However, Lazio has not campaigned on Cornell’s main campus.

The event will take place three days before the senatorial election to succeed Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-N.Y.).
