The Cornell men’s swimming and diving team came as close as two points on Saturday to Army, but eventually fell to the Cadets 132.5-108.5.
Army was up 23 points after six events, but the Red fought back to 85-83 after taking the top three spots in the 200-yard backstroke. But in the end, it was not the day for the Red.
Senior Will Norgard led the Cornell, taking the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle in 22.02 and 47.39, respectively.
Other stars for the Red were junior John Kenny, senior diver Jon Cebulski, and junior Ryan Buckham.
Kenny won the 1000-yard freestyle and placed second in the 500-yard freestyle, with times of 9:44.08 and 4:46.06. Cebulski took second in the one-meter and won the three-meter dives. Buckham, who also swam the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay team, won the 200-yard backstroke.
“Ryan definitely had one of the fastest swims of the entire team,” head coach Joe Lucia said.
He added, “It was a tough loss for us, but we are fighters and are hoping to finish the season strong.”
The loss for the Red brings it to 1-4 overall, and 0-2 in the Ivy League.
