The End of Vista

Print More

You might have heard that Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista to all testers. I, hoping for an improved experience, went ahead and downloaded it. After the required reboot, part of the installation procedure (an extremely long and slow part) is done immediately before the log-in screen. Here, Windows displays the installation progress and warns the user not to turn off his or her computer.

Now as luck has it of course, my computer overheats during this procedure and completely shuts down without warning. Attempts thereafter to boot Windows Vista result in failure during load, with a message suggesting use of the recovery disc. Not wanting to waste any more time with this utter failure of a product, I embraced Windows XP.
