Cornell Student Charged With DWI After Police Chase Near Buffalo, N.Y.

Christopher Preusch ’12 led police on a chase in Depew Village, N.Y. early Saturday morning — after allegedly ramming the back of a parked car and seriously injuring two people — ending when he lost control of his car and careened through multiple rollovers, Depew Police said.Preusch was admitted to the Eerie County Medical Center early Sunday morning after sustaining critical injuries and was in stable condition Sunday night. Preusch, 20, of Elma, N.Y. is a junior in the College of Engineering. He has been charged with DWI, reckless driving, unlawful fleeing, leaving the scene of an injury accident, and “numerous traffic violations,” according to Depew Police. Police said they responded to a report of vehicular injury in Depew Village, where officers pursued Preusch after observing him hit a car and speed away. Preusch was driving “very erratically” at speeds around 75 mph, according to a Depew Police press release. His vehicle was recovered in the woods approximately 200 feet from the road. The victims of the first accident sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police stated. Preusch was arraigned and his bail was set at $7,500.
